India

Dad called at 8:25 PM last night from Manubhai's 4th floor apartment in Mumbai  (Bombay).  It was almost 6 AM there and he said he had been awake for 2 hours after sleeping about 4 hours and some sleep on the plane.  He said all Manubhai's family greeted him at the airport as well as 2 other men.  One man was driving the car they had rented to pick dad up from the airport.  What are those things called that you see in pictures where a man is pulling a cart that people ride in?  Well, dad says they are motorized.  So he will be interested to see today ( it was just getting light there) what the streets are like when they are full of pedestrians (most don't have vehicles) as well as motor bikes, cars, etc.  He didn't see any cows.  Maybe that is only in smaller cities or out toward the edges of the city......    There is a prayer mtg planned from 1-4 PM today at Manubhai's.  On Saturday a new believer's mtg---that's the one listed on itinerary as non-believer's mtg----maybe was a typo, we had wondered about that!  Then I think an overnight train to the city of Simon Brainard's church where dad is to speak on Sunday. Dad will be teaching both Saturdays the new believers.  I called him right back using the tel 3 advantage that Cassie told us about and it sounded like he was here in the same room.  So much simpler than calling cards.  I told him if he gets sleepy today that he could go for a ride with Manubhai on the motor bike and that should wake him up---they both got a good laugh out of that idea.  Manubhai got on the phone and told me not to worry about Ron---they will take good care of him!

Covered Bridge Festival

Title?   You put titles on caleb's, don't you, Wendy.  But I don't remember on others.  This one won't have a title. (Well, so now it does after all!) So Dad is in India but I haven't heard from him yet.  I talked to him just before his plane left New York last night at 9:30.  They are somehow 9 and a half hours ahead of us.  I have no idea how that extra half hour happens.  So I could try call Manubhai's cell phone at midnight tonight and maybe they would be up but I don't want to be up that late.  I found out at 4:30 this afternoon that I have to go to a training at 7:45 tomorrow morning at the hospital.  It is for some communcation system called Vocera that the medical side of the hospital has been using already for quite a while and they want us to start on Monday so are trying to rush everyone through this training on very short notice.  Yesterday after leaving dad at the airport I had lunch with Lynn and Cheryl up near the hospital.  Lynn had an interview at Fairbanks and hopefully will be able to start working there soon.  Driving the hour and a half to Logansport was just too much for her and she has had some more health problems.  It was fun to see her and Cheryl.  Cheryl and I rarely get to work at the same time and when we do we are usually too busy to chat very much.   I also went to Kohl's and got some new white Reebocks for work at a very good sale price.  So I should have been napping to speed recovery from my dental work but it was good to be busy too.  My face still looks funny from the swelling but is worse in the mornings and getting a little better each day.  Barb and I went to eat at Golden Corral last night (they have plenty of choices so I could eat mostly soft things) and we left for the Covered Bridge Festival this morning at 8:00 in pouring rain, armed with umbrellas!   Soon the rain stopped and we had one of the most beautiful days we have ever had there!  Sunny and very warm and enough breeze to keep it from being too hot.  Not a very big crowd.  I think people were scared off by the weather reports of 80% rain.   More room for us!   : )       It's nice to have Jeff here.   He is working so hard on his school work but has no classes the end of the week so was here when Barb and I got back today.  She went on home right away.  I bought a few fun things----a package of permanent markers (Sharpies) with quite a few black ones (always disappearing from the kitchen!) and maybe a dozen different colored ones......I think $4.00 for all of those!   Got a couple of the flat earmuff things that just fit around the back of your head (for walking----my ears start hating the cold long before it is cold enough to need a sock hat)(only a dollar apiece) and a sock hat with little ear covers too, for colder yet.  Didn't try it on there and it is maybe a little tight but I think will be okay.  We had tortilla soup and corn bread at a little place down the stairs near the old mill overlooking the dam.  Never did see the ham and bean soup place this time, but this was even better, and we really enjoyed the view of the water. Later Barb had the raspberry home made ice cream and i had my usual pumpkin.  So we had a good time!  She wanted to stop at a farm market on the way home and we discovered a huge one just this side of Danville.  I bought 5 tulip bulbs that are supposed to be a really pretty peach color.  It would be a great place to go look at plants in the spring......they have room for TONS.  I think that's about it.    Guess Covered Bridge would be a good title!

Well, we are not getting anyplace with the pictures, so maybe I can at least try to write something.  Today Jeff and Vika and I went to the Indianapolis Zoo.  The weather was beautiful, almost too hot.  It occurred to me that on Wes and Wendy's wedding 4 years ago today it was very cold, although beautiful and sunny!  Happy anniversary!!!   Tonight I worked really hard until after dark planting a Rose of Sharon that I bought awhile ago and it really needed to be put into the ground.  To put it where I decided I want it I had to move another, much smaller one.  I put my little tiller to good use.  Also tilled part of our tiny garden that was "done" in preparation for some strawberry plants that my dad sent home with me a couple days ago.  Need to get those planted in the next day or two.   Vika will be flying to Portland, Oregon Tuesday to keep her sister company in the hospital for a few days since her mama had to go back to the rest of the family in Tacoma, Washington for now.  Jeff is working really hard on his studies at IUPUI.  Vika is doing a lot of driving with her permit and she is doing a great job.  We are enjoying having them back here with us again.  The problem with the pictures is that when they go from the camera into the computer they go someplace that the computer can't find them when it browes from the xanga site.  So many other priorities all the time!  Some day I will corner someone to help me.  If "someone" and I ever have enough time at the same time!

Okay, you can tell which clematis are against the house---you see the brick behind it.  The ones on the fence are at the back of the yard behind the flower garden.  The beautiful light pink with dark pink centers are phlox--you can see some of the same in purple behind it.  Those came from Mother's garden the last couple years.  There are a couple or three other colors too.  I'd like to get some white ones for both of us.  Beside those round stepping stones are my hollyhocks.  Those in the picture show no sign of flowering but on down there are three (and a huge one up by the house) that have a lot of buds and I think will flower before long.  I will be so excited when that happens and hopefully I can figure out how to get pictures of them on here.  I'll keep working on it and maybe eventually can put notes with each picture!
